In 2010, the new Watson shape has a lot to live up to. After all, it’s known as the best selling wakeboard in Liquid Force’s lineup. Why is that exactly? We figured it was worth asking a couple questions to Liquid Force’s Director of Marketing, Matt Gleason as well as Shawn Watson himself.

Rumor has it the Watson is the best selling LF board, is that true?
Matt Gleason: Watson’s ‘09 board was again the top selling board in the lineup. Anything with the Watson name on it turns to gold!

Why is that?
Matt Gleason: I think that Shawn’s products sell so well because he’s a really likeable guy, he’s always got great graphics and his shapes are very “rideable” for most everyone. He’s always had great shapes and boards that worked well for every type of riding style and environment.

Shawn, what size board are you on and what’s your height and weight?
Shawn Watson: I like the 139, and I’m 5’10” and 175 lbs.

If a rider is used to the ‘08 or ‘09 Watson board, what can they expect when they get on the new shape for the first time?
Shawn Watson: Well, the board has a triple concave through the bottom of the board rather than a double concave with a spine like my previous shape. So that makes the board faster on the water, and you’ll notice it lands a lot softer and gets incredible pop off the wake.

What about riders who might want to stick with your old shape?
Shawn Watson: We’re still keeping the old board in the line. It’s now called the “Classic Watson.”

Any other new features on the new board?
Shawn Watson: Yes, we’re using screw-on fins rather than molded. This allows the board to be faster and more durable. Molded-in fins eventually wear down on rails, so now you can rock the board with no fins or replace fins if you break them rather than replacing the board!
