WAKEBOARDING magazine March cover
A lot goes into making the cover of WAKEBOARDING magazine, but it all starts with a powerful image. Here, the Legend Shaun Murray gives some insight on the process of creating a unique cover shot.
Shaun Murray:
More than a year ago, I mentioned to Kevco that I wanted to try and get a cool cover shot. He told me, “Get something unique and creative, and we’ll see if it’s something that can work.” I tried shooting this land gap at my school, The Boarding School, but we struggled to get something that we thought was cover-worthy. I had a few different ideas of something similar (which may come about in the future), but just a couple months ago, I was out on a carve set with my buddy Aaron. I just wanted to get wet for a quick lap around my lake and not get into the air much. I’ve done the blind toeside cut since my days on the Skurfer, but I decided to see just how hard I could cut and how close I could get my nose to the water. I called Joey Meddock and told him I wanted to shoot to see if we could shoot the hard lean. The morning of the shoot, we happened to have perfect conditions with the sunlight and wind. After the first pass, the lake had a tiny ripple and the shoot was pretty much over. But it was a good thing, because after leaning like that for two minutes, I was pretty tired. It actually strains the body pretty hard if you do it long enough, but if you ever get to ride the mirror, I suggest you try it.

It is an awesome shot, But as the first guys said, it has to be mirrored(ie photoshopped)
Shaun is a 3 dimentional object. the water is only 2, therefore it is not possible for the reflection to show the blue on his back(or his whole hands behind his back.) At least not from this angle anyways.
Still a top shot & idea tho!
Want the big poster of this inthe boat garage for inspiration.
yeah Murr-dogg, another notch on the Awesometer! wish I coulda been there to actually see it!
Absolutely the coolest cover shot I've seen. Great promo for the sport.
Everyone who pics up the mag does a double-take! Way to go Shaun this is one of my favorite covers ever! WakeMikey
Is there anyway you guys could make a high rez desktop wallpaper of just that pict with your logo of course.
Same here, I would love to have this as my desktop wallpaper. Pretty please?
GREAT SHOT!!! Way to go Joey and Shaun!
I totally agree with Jray. But that is a sweet shot nonetheless
it coulda just been the angle that Meddock caught it at; holdoing that for 2 min or more is quite a bit of time to catch it just right, still an awesome shot though!
Yeah Murray! Thanks for creative inspiration
WakeBoarding Mag is legit. there are no photoshop photos! come on man…
he is checking if the hair is combed
That is absolutely amazing. That is one of the coolest things I have seen him do.
was the picture photoshopped at all? It just seems like you wouldn't be able to see the reflection of the hands, since they're behind your back.
Get a mirror out and set up some G.I. Joes or Power Rangers and stand at different angles away from them and see what you can and cannot see……..
wow.
I hope you're a better wakeboarder than a photographer! Come on man, there's no photoshop!
*He* wouldn't see his own hands because they are behind him, *we* see them because (from our perspective) they are not behind him.
This is a totally amazing shot but, I have to go with JRay and the photoshoping. Aside from the hands, lookk at the blue patch on the back of his life jacket. That's dead behind him. There's no way that would reflect in the water.
Are you stupid or what??? How can someone looking from a certain angle see your butt when you're facing the mirror?? A word called perspective…
Beautiful! I just see at the first time.
