For how fast wakeskating progresses on a day-to-day basis, Austin Pastura could be considered the perfect human metaphor. In the past year, he put together an unreal part in the new wakeskating video More Than Machines, took everyone by surprise at the rail segment of the Byerly Toe Jam and stepped out of the shadow of being Andrew Pastura’s little brother. In what seems like an instant, he came out of nowhere and can hang with anyone. On top of that, he is one of the most down-to-earth, funny and humble kids you’ll meet, but you would have expected that from another Pastura.
Although he has some pretty big Nikes to fill, Austin worked harder learning new tricks and had more fun in the past year than most riders do in the span of their careers. At only 15, Austin is still in school and lives in Ohio, but he cruises down to the Sunshine State every now and again to visit and ride with his brother.
When I asked Austin what he wants to be when he grows up, he told me his goal was “to be a solid frat dude.” What a coincidence, that’s exactly what I want to be.
