Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 255

Tech magazine Popular Science named Sea-Doo’s GTX Limited iS 255 PWC a grand winner in its “Best of What’s New” feature from the December 2009 issue. “The Best of What’s New” feature identifies the 100 best innovations of the year.

The Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 255, which is the first PWC with on-water braking, was the standout product of the “Best of What’s New”’s recreation category.

“For 22 years, Popular Science has honored the innovations that surprise and amaze us – those that make a positive impact on our world today and challenge our views of what’s possible in the future,” said Mark Jannot, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Science. “The Best of What’s New Award is the magazine’s top honor, and the 100 winners — chosen from among thousands of entrants — represent the highest level of achievement in their fields.”

The honor was not the first for Sea-Doo’s Intelligent Brake and Reserve (iBR) technology, which debuted in the 2009 GTX Limited iS 255 and is now featured on the 2010 Sea-Doo Wake Pro 215. iBR received a host of accolades from marine media outlets and the U.S. Coast Guard — with good reason.

We test drove the 2010 Sea-Doo Wake Pro 215 with iBR technology in August and came away mightily impressed. The on-water brake reduces stopping distance by half, which makes riding a PWC far safer, and iBR also allows the Sea-Doo driver to reverse — a particularly handy feature when towing wakeboarders or wakeskaters.
