Nine riders won national titles at the sixth annual Cable Wakeboard National Championships, April 29, at Ski Rixen in Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, Fla. The event featured male and female riders from across the country vying for national titles in cable wakeboarding and cable wakeskating. Placement at this year’s event will be used as part of the criteria for selecting the 2006 U.S. Wakeboard Cable Wakeboard Team, which will compete in the IWSF Cable Wakeboard World Championships, July 26-30, in Feldkirchen, Austria.
“We witnessed outstanding performances from all the athletes who competed in the sixth annual Cable Wakeboard National Championships this past weekend,” said Steve McDermeit, executive director of USA Water Ski. “The rapid growth and tremendous enthusiasm we’ve seen over the past several years is a good indicator of what lies ahead in the years to come.”
The event consisted of 10 divisions – Girls (14 and under), Boys (14 and under), Junior Women (15-18), Junior Men (15-18), Amateur Men (19-29), Masters Men (30 and over), Open Women, Open Men, Wakeskate and Obstacles Only.
Justin Dahan (Boca Raton, Fla.) was the big winner on the day, winning national titles in Wakeskate and Boys. Other athletes earning national titles were: Alizee Brion (Miami Beach, Fla.), Open Women; Rob Mapp (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Open Men; Melanie Chojnacki (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Girls; Heather Johnson (Orlando, Fla.), Junior Women; Witt Finley (Austin, Texas), Obstacles Only; Jimmy LaRiche (Boca Raton, Fla.), Junior Men; Brett Scott (Sugar Hill, Ga.), Amateur Men; and Lu Le (Orlando, Fla.), Masters.
