Wake Nation Houston will celebrate its grand opening on June 4-5 with two days of live music, free food and giveaways, and pro wakeboarding exhibitions. On June 5, Wake Nation Houston will host the third stop of Liquid Force’s 2011 Free For All cable tour. Free For All participants will ride for free from noon through 5 p.m. and will have the opportunity to demo new 2011 Liquid Force wakeboarding gear.
“The Free For All event is a great opportunity for the public to come out to Wake Nation Houston, learn to ride, meet the top professionals in the sport, and get tons of giveaways…all for free,” said Wake Nation co-owner Peter Kennedy. “If you don’t have a board — no worries. We will have new Liquid Force demo boards and vests available for you to try that day!”
Among the professionals on hand will be Texas’ own Tom Fooshee, the reigning Wake Park World Series champion. Also at the event will be two top professionals from Florida — Aaron Reed and Ben Greenwood — plus numerous other wakeboard and wakeskate professionals.
For experienced riders, Wake Nation Houston is outfitted with custom-built kickers, rails and other obstacles. In addition to the main lake, there is also a separate area called the Practice Pond which features an “easy start” ride system. This area is designed to give kids and wakeboarding beginners a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake.
A unique feature of Wake Nation Houston is the overhead cable that moves around the lake in a clockwise direction — currently the only clockwise cable system in Texas and only the second of its kind in the USA. Clockwise cables are ideal for left-foot-forward riders, which is how the majority of today’s wakeboarders ride.
The Wake Nation Houston complex has a full pro shop, equipment rental shop, concessions’ area, huge outdoor observation deck offering a panoramic view of the entire lake area and numerous other services and amenities.
Wake Nation Houston is open daily through October. Operating hours are 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily except on Mondays when the park opens at noon. Wake Nation Houston is a “pay-as-you-play” facility. Parking and admission to the cable wakeboarding complex are FREE, including access to the outdoor observation deck. Riders pay only for their “water time,” at $25 for two hours, $30
for four hours and $35 for an all-day pass. Wake Nation also offers lessons, special group rates and several season pass options. Currently, there are only 10 full-scale cable wakeboarding parks in the U.S.A.
Wake Nation Houston is the second cable wakeboard complex operating under the Wake Nation brand. Wake Nation’s first cable wakeboard complex, Wake Nation Cincinnati, opened in May, 2009 to rave reviews from the local community as well as professional wakeboarders worldwide. The popular venue has already hosted two nationally sanctioned tournaments, won several “Best Of” awards and last year set an officially sanctioned Guinness World Record for longest distance traveled on a wakeboard in a 24-hour period.
