Pros Begin Title Campaigns at Rockstar WWA Wakeboard World Championships
Two World Titles Handed out at Day Three of Worlds
Pleasant Prairie, WI. —Another day of clean conditions on Lake Andrea graced the opening rounds of the sport’s two elite divisions, Pro Men and Pro Women, at the Rockstar WWA Wakeboard World Championships presented by Supra. The world’s best made the most of the good hand they were dealt, treating the Pleasant Prairie crowd to heat-after-heat of top-tier progressive riding.
Opening his quest for an elusive World Title, Supra Team Rider Austin Hair had a strong showing in the Pro Men’s division. Using a lethal aerial attack that included a Pete Rose, Whirly Bird 540 and heelside frontside 720, Hair secured a spot in tomorrow’s semifinals and will face a stacked field of other top performers from today including Mike Dowdy, Phil Soven, Harley Clifford and Rusty Malinoski.
The Pro Women looked equally comfortable on the water. The day’s pinnacle performance came from U.S. athlete Melissa Marquardt. The seasoned veteran excelled with huge toe-side and heel-side aerials as well as precise rail riding. Her well-balanced run was good enough for the day’s high-score of 83.33 narrowly edging out Aussie rider and fellow heat winner Amber Wing who posted a very respectable 80.00.
Pro Wakeskate also opened competition today. Supra team rider Reed Hansen’s experience riding behind the Supra SA550 was clear to competitors and spectators alike. The Floridian launched with ease from the boat’s clean wake linking together stylish wake-to-wake airs with highly-technical maneuvers to claim first place in the ultra-competitive division.
“The conditions were great and the wake was awesome”, said Hansen. “I ended up on top today and can’t wait to ride in the finals tomorrow.”
In addition to today’s pro heats, two World Championships were awarded with both titles going to Americans. In the Master’s division Aaron Lecklider took the crown and in Men’s I Timothy Burnier claimed top honors.
Sunday’s final day of competition is a ticketed event. Gate prices are $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under).
