Atlanta, Georgia (Jun 22, 2016) – On Saturday, June 18th, the Georgia Wake Series rolled up to the astroturf of Terminus Wake Park for Stop #2 of the season. Almost 70 riders enjoyed Terminus’ state of the art facility for what is sure to be the first of many GAWS events in the future. The two-lake facility made for an incredible day of wakeboarding while a welcomed front kept the temperatures in the mid-80s. The action started early with Junior Beginner and progressed throughout the day with more technical riding by each group.
In the Advanced Finals, Pierce Bishop bested Breno Santos by a narrow margin but the biggest news came from Terminus shredder, Marilyn Pruitt, whose solid rail hits and a boosted heelside frontside 540 tied Henry Arvanites for third on the day, landing her on the podium with a nice prize pack including an Ambush Board Company gift card. After the first nine classes, the Open Division was unleashed with Four Heats. Heat Three put James Windsor up against Georgia’s Blake Bishop. Windsor wasted no time and set things off with two different mobes and two variations of heelside 720s within the first two laps. He then launched his signature Front to Fakie to secure his place in the final.
The Finals of the Open Division, a five-minute jam style format, pitched Australia’s Windsor against Buywake‘s Justin Lee, along with former Terminus Marketing Manager, Adam Silcio, and WaterSports Central/CWB‘s Brandon Lee. After the horn blast, Windsor again wasted no time sending a nose grab S-Bend to blind less than 30 seconds into the Finals. Silcio, who advanced to the Finals with a buzzer beater heel frontside 720, applied the pressure with solid hits all across the park. In the end it wasn’t enough to stop Brandon Lee, whose triple up sized toeside nose grab backside 360 off the XL Kicker was good for 3rd. Justin Lee applied the pressure to Windsor with a melan toeside backside 720 with less than a minute to go and narrowly missed toeside backside 900 at the buzzer for 2nd place. Windsor, however, was unstoppable and riding strong from his first heat continued his dominance while spending his last two laps elevating ollies on to the high ledge of the pool.
After the completion of the event, the cables kept spinning while podium winners were announced and trophies, in the shape of the XL Kicker, were handed out. Terminus’s own Scott Schaad, quickly making a name for himself as the voice of the Georgia Wake Series, said, “It was a great day seeing so many new competitors of all ages and skill levels at our park. The GAWS is doing great things by bringing both cable and boat riders together for events and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season!”
Two down and four to go and we’ve had some shake up with respect to the Series Standings. But with Wakefest in Albany this Saturday, this is bound to be another week of action across the leaderboard.
